Debbie How to Replace Front Brake Pads on a bmw 740il 2001?
the question was not about safety but how to replace brakes…
I agree with both previous answers. Brake jobs are simply too dangerous to be done on a first time basis by a newbie/amateur.
But just for the record, BMW rotors are normally not machinable. When brand new the rotors are only slightly more than 1 mm. above the minimum thickness (in this case minimum is 28.4 mm.).
And BMW recommends not to machine more than .8 mm off the rotors (what a joke).
M rotors are definitely not machinable under any circumstance.
